Created for the Regina One Take Super 8 Event.
At the time of shooting, my dad was in a nursing home with severe dementia. He generally didn't like being filmed. He wouldn't say why. I asked him on this day and he agreed, although in all honesty he didn't really understand. He passed away in January of 2024.
The film features my voice, speaking quietly using a script I carefully worded, talking to my dad beginning with the words "Hi dad" which is what I would say to him every time I saw him since I was not certain he know who I was by the end. Comments following the screening were overwhelmingly positive.
It screened in 2023 at 8Fest in Toronto and in 2024 at the Dresden Film Festival.
